Whitecox & Lyons Sports Management (WCL) is hosting an internship program featuring teams representing all 50 states, District of Columbia, and 15 international countries. The program will have interns are all vying for the open positions within the WCL organization. The program comes on the heels of the recent announcement of the newly founded Whitecox & Lyons Recruiting Service.
This progressive program is specifically designed to meet the needs of both college coaches and potential collegiate student-athletes. One important facet of the program is that it offers college coaches a quick and precise vehicle to locate potential student-athletes through a sophisticated software program. The other component is to help potential collegiate student-athletes market themselves in their pursuits for scholarship and playing opportunities at the collegiate level. The objective of this program is for each team to get as many student-athletes registered for the service within the time frame of the program using creative marketing strategies and innovative techniques. Each team will earn a commission for each registered athlete that they acquire in their territory.
“Once we announced the arrival of the Recruiting Service we knew the need for a large scale employee search was needed. We want young, motivated people to build the foundation of our company much like Jelany [White], Kawika [Lyons], and myself,” Chief Executive Officer Dustin Simcox said. “This program will allow us to seek out some of the brightest young minds across the globe and put them against each other to prove who is right for the job. It is not who looks better on paper or who has the best interview skills, it’s who can take the project at hand and complete it at its highest point.”
The program officially begins on October 15th, 2013 and will end on April 5th, 2014. The top performers of the program will be announced on April 6th, 2014. The top United States teams and top international teams will be declared winners and will receive first priority when offical job offers are made after the competition. Interns will also be invited to the 2014 WCL Preliminary NBA Draft Combine in Los Angeles on April 11th-14th
Chief Operating Officer and Director of the WCL Recruiting Service, Kawika Lyons stated, “This global program will also give the interns the opportunity of a lifetime to use their knowledge, develop business skills, and earn a commission. The bonus is employment opportunities with WCL Sports Management.”
The 15 international countries participating in the program will be China, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Turkey, United Kingdom, South Korea, Spain, Argentina, Canada, Australia, Greece, and Serbia. Each international team will consist of four students that are at a junior or senior credit status.
The top performers will be decided based on percent of target market population they get registered for the recruiting service. We understand the available student-athletes in California and Texas are much higher than Wyoming and Nebraska so by using the percentage total we even the playing field. For example, California gets 10,000 student-athletes registered out of 500,000 for a total of 2% and Nebraska gets 4,000 registered out of 140,000 for a total of 2.8%. Nebraska would defeat California in the program even though California provided 6,000 more student athletes.
There are many exciting positions within the organization for the programs top performers. There will be multiple positions for regional athletic coordinators, consultants, marketers, recruiters, and account managers. In addition, there will be opportunities for high achievers to be inducted into a pool of Junior Associate Sports Agents to assist with managing players in MLB, NHL, NFL, Golf, Nascar, or Tennis arenas. Whitecox & Lyons Sports Management is excited to embark on this new venture. The WCL Nationwide and International College Internship Program will be the catalyst to creating opportunities for college coaches and the student athletes.
