With the start of a new year, we would like to introduce Whitecox & Lyons Sports Management’s (WCL) plans moving forward in 2014. The success of our 2013 efforts resulted in the ability to bring more fire power into our agency for our current and future players moving forward. As an agency we were able to look at the best of our 2013 combines and distinguish which locations provided the most success in terms of placement. Based on those figures we have decided to minimize the number of combines to those top valued cities to maximize the opportunities for international scouts, coaches, and teams to find the right fit for their professional organizations.
Before we get into the specifics of the 2014 Combine Schedule, we would first like to introduce Jason Jackson as our newest agent that will be working alongside current NBA, WNBA, and FIBA Certified Sports Agent Dustin Simcox. Jackson, has had a very reputable and versatile basketball career dating back to his collegiate days. A native of Frisco, Texas attended Collin County Community College his first few years before transferring to NCAA Division II University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Jackson decided to take his education and basketball career west for his senior season when he played for Coach Darren Vorderbruegge at NCAA Division 2 Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his senior season, Jackson accumulated averages of 13.3 points and 8.8 rebounds including two 30 plus point performances against National Runner Up BYU Hawaii.
After departing HPU, Jackson pursued a career in professional basketball on his own accord. Without an agent he secured a professional contract playing for Taiwan Beer in Taiwan. During his one season with the Beer he contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. Again, wanting to further his career he began searching for a new club on his own. This time Jackson found himself a contract playing for Al Ansar a professional team located in Saudi Arabia. Jackson played one season for Al Ansar averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds per game. He finished his professional career in Europe for ABA Strumica in the country of Macedonia. Jackson only lasted half the season before suffering a career-ending knee injury. In one of his last games he posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. WCL President and Agent Dustin Simcox commented, “Jason provides three years of experience in three completely different professional basketball cultures and he has served essentially as his own agent his entire career. We are excited to see what he can do as an official agent for our current and future clients here at WCL”
Simcox, Jackson, and WCL Sports Agency Director Jelany White will all be on the road to each of the following combines coming up later in the year. The 2014 Combine Slate kicks off during the Men’s Division 1 Final Four in Dallas, Texas on April 5th for the men and April 6th for the women. A week later the combine tour heads west for our most productive city of 2013 in Los Angeles, California. The men’s combine will take place on April 12th and the women’s combine on April 13th. WCL will take the following weekend off for Easter and return for the men’s combine on April 26th and women’s combine on April 27th in the great city of Atlanta, Georgia. The final weekend of the first round of combines will take place on Saturday May 3rd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for both the men and women and then conclude on Sunday May 4th in Chicago, Illinois for both men and women. We understand that these combines are during semester for a lot of student-athletes concluding their academic careers so we have implemented one final combine session back in Los Angeles on May 31st for men and June 1st for women after the semesters have ended.
